The origins of the Madajazzcar International Festival date back to October 1988, when a jazz club was created within the Alliance Française de Tananarive (AFT), at the initiative of a trio of young Malagasy doctors passionate about jazz. The foundation of this AFT jazz club is the step that will, in a way, seal definitively the revival of Malagasy jazz, which already counted for decades of existence and creativity, having contributed to make Madagascar one of the most of the first African countries, with South Africa and Cameroon, to have a dynamic jazz scene and talented musicians.
